Conflict Reflection Free Essays

University What makes an effective, moral, and efficient leader? Over the last several years in the workforce I have tried to learn what it takes to have strong leadership in the workforce. The way I see it leadership is made of many different parts which have been taken from many different areas. Things such as reading, training, and various programs that we have taken part in while in the workforce that are meant to enhance our leadership capabilities. We will write a custom essay sample on Conflict Reflection or any similar topic only for you Order Now Leadership from my perspective is made up of any different things such as being open minded, how we work and interact with others, being open to lifelong learning from any meaner, being a collaborator, having vision, and you must be willing to take risks when necessary. I have been working hard to become a better leader and feel like I make more and more progress all the time. I have learned that a key part of this is how you work with others. I have also learned that a definite key to to success it having characteristics such as integrity, education, knowledge, skill, and determination. I am still learning and want to learn and improve more every day. Introduction: While preparing to do this paper I used a few different sources to complete the research that allowed me to complete this paper. I first read the text from the course, which lead me to the web sites kissers. Com and outfielders. Com/big five. I was able to take the information from these three sources to make a pretty accurate assessment of my leadership style, my strengths, and of my weakness. This information will help me to better understand and make a plan for me to become a better leader for the future. Test Result Kissers Style Sorter: When took the personality on the Kerrey website, my personality type was labeled as n idealist. I was not really sure that I agreed with this until I really sat down and read the assessment. When I reflected on what I though this meant I was not sure that this was a good or bad thing. I really though that this was not necessarily a good thing and was really beginning to doubt my abilities as a leader. After reading the assessment I realized that this was much more me that I ever really thought it could be. I believe that being an idealist can be considered and amazing strength. Being an idealist shows that I not only strive to develop myself but that I strive to be the best that I can be. In striving to be the best this also meaner wanting to help others. Others, and they want to help them reach their full potential in many area such as learning, counseling, social services, personal work, Journalism, helping others find their way, and helping them to reach their maximum potential. Idealists are also very ethical. In today’s business environment all to often ethics continue to be an issue. It is very hard sometimes to determine the difference between right and wrong and choosing the hard right over the easy wrong. Idealists’ still find a way to hold themselves to the highest standard of personal integrity. Idealists are also very kind people who show love and good will to most all people. They believe in being warm and giving to others, this leads to good friendly and loving relationships. They are one of the smallest populations and a very rare group only making up 15 to 20 percent of the population. Big Five Personality Test When I took the Big Five Personality Test, one of the strengths that I found was in the area of conscientiousness. When I scored a 78 in this area and was very proud of that. There are many things that I would love to say that I have strengths in, and this is definitely one of them. I would to think that I and reliable and self-disciplined and this assessment showed me that I truly am. As I went through these assessments I realized that there are many areas that I could use some growth in. I will not say that I was not shocked by some of them but seeing as how I answered the questions very honestly I figure that they must be pretty honest results. I really had in some of the areas sort off hard pill to swallow but I have done so and hope to use forward and use this to my advantage. On the Big Five assessment the score showed I was extremely closed minded, and his came as a shock to me. I always considered myself to be a person who was open to new ideas and new experiences. I now can see with the way that answered these questions that that must not be the case. I now know that I need to start looking at things and thinking about them before I make a final decision. I need to learn that I should not Just have the attitude that it is my ideas or my way or nothing. This attitude can be a big turn of to all of those who I work with, whether they are above or below me. I also was truly shocked to find out that this assessment show me to be an introvert. I had always considered myself to be an extrovert, this is the third time I have taken an assessment that has show me to be Just the opposite. This is something that I definitely need to work on and I am not even sure how to fix it, as I don’t really see it. I guess how I can grow in this and the previous area is Just to sit down and talk frankly with those that I work with. I can pose the issue to them and assure them that I would like them to address this subject freely so that I am able to correct the issue and move forward. If I do not find away to address and correct these issues it will have a great impact n how effective that I am in my Job. If people think that I am closed minded and introverted they will never want to approach me. If I people perceive me to be unapproachable and closed off this could lead to issues that need to be address being put on the back burner. This could lead too lack of productivity and an unhealthy work environment. Overall I found these results to be shocking. Some of the areas on the assessment ultimately I am happy with the results because I may have otherwise never seen where these weaknesses lie. This helped me to see that I have both strengths and knees and how I can impact both sides for the positive. How to cite Conflict Reflection, Papers

Increasing Value Of The Internet Of Things â€Myassignmenthelp.Com

Questions: How Internet Of Things Systems Deploy People And How Internet Of Things Can Grow Into Trusted Eco Friendly System In Cities? How Internet Of Things Can Be Designed To Prevent People From Exploitation Where In Now Days All Persons Depend On The Devices Of Internet Of Things? How Internet Of Things Can Be Designed To Make An Encouragement Among The Individuals So That They Can Contribute By Sharing The Infrastructure? Answers: Introduction Internet of Things is the devices that are used in daily lives for making our life smart and automatic. Internet of Things is the devices that do their work automatically without any human effort and helps to complete the work with the help of internet. Internet of Things needs a Bluetooth connection, Wi-Fi connection or an Internet connection to establish connection in between them. In this report the details of the Internet of Things are discussed. Their related issues and their application in daily lives are also studied. The drawbacks of the management of Things are studied and the challenges that are faced by the user while using Internet of Things are described elaborately. This report gives a details discussion on Internet of Things and their uses. Challenges of Internet of Things The challenges that are faced by Internet of Things are in three sectors. Any new technology that comes in new trend faces challenges in these three sectors (Rymaszewska, Helo Gunasekaran, 2017). The areas where Internet of Things faces challenges are: technology, society and business. The technologies that are needed to make the Internet of Things faces challenges in security, compatibility, longevity, intelligent action and analysis and also connectivity. The business sector faces challenges that are in mainly three areas- Consumer Internet of Things, Commercial Internet of Things and also in the devices of Internet of Things that are in industrial sector (Ng Wakenshaw, 2107). The challenges that are faced from the society comes from different sectors which includes customer demands and their requirements, the new devices comes in trend at a very fast pace which faces a challenge in the society. Also the Internet of Things devices are changing and expanding which faces a challeng e. Problems related to Internet Things The problems related to Internet of Things are the problem with data, problem in connecting with the remote assets and big data challenge. Problem with Data- The devices of Internet of Things deals with numerous amount of data. All those have to be analyzed and processed in the real time (Gerpott May, 2016). The problem arises in processing those data in the devices of Internet of Things. The large quantities of data in Internet of Things devices increases in data centers which creates a place for capacity, analytics challenges and faces new security. Connecting the remote assets- Accounting to Miorandi et al. 2016, the problem arises in Internet of Things device in connecting the assets remotely. The system and devices will be connected and data stream is provided and the management system is decentralized. The location of the devices, activity, status and function of the system and also enables to get the details of the person who owns the device and operates them are all traced by remote access. The Big Data challenge- To mitigate the challenges that are faced by big data technologies like NoSQL and Hadoop which gives high capacity, parallel processing and scalability. Technologies of Internet of Things The technologies of Internet of Things that are enabled are RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), NFC, Bluetooth, LTE-A, Wi-Fi Direct, low energy Bluetooth and also protocols that are oriented with low energy radio (Gubbi et al., 2013). The networking functionality that are specified are supported by these technologies in Internet of Things system in comparison with the common devices and systems. Application of Internet of Things There are many areas where the Internet of Things is applied. Here are four real world application of Internet of Things. Smart Home- Internet of Things is applied to make a home smart and automatic place to live in (Atzori, Iera Morabito, 2014). Smart Home includes devices of Internet of Things such as automatic light sensor, automatic water controller, Echo Amazon Dot, Smart Phone sensor, lamp light controller, car driveway sensor, automatic lawn sensor, automatic cooker, door sensors, face recognition camera and many more things. Wearables- The wearables that are used for humans such as fitness band which shows the information about the users body. These fitness bands are connected to their smart phones and iPhones that show the data about their blood pressure, bone density and many others. Connected cars- The Internet of Things has reached to the level where it has invented the automatic digital technology. Connected cars are built so that it understands the comfort of the passengers automatically. This is a car which is driven automatically and maintains all its operation automatically. The car has sensors and internet connectivity which allows the passenger with comfort. Industrial Internet- This application of Internet of Things is mainly applied in the industrial sector of engineering which includes big data, software and also sensors. These technologies make great machines in the industrial sectors. Clarification on drawbacks of Internet of Things The main three concern of Internet of Things are the over reliance of technology, losing jobs and the data breach privacy. Data breach privacy is a great issue in the Internet of Things sector (Borgia, 2014). Mainly the phone data breach creates a main drawback in this area of Internet of Things. Another argument in the Internet of Things is over reliance over the technology. The generation now days has grown up with the internet and technology availability which creates a drawback. Depending on the technology that fully and making decisions on what the technology wants may create a great devastation in human life. The devices of Internet of Things are not fault less or robust. The new generation will totally collapse if the system or the technology they are using collapses. The dependency on the Internet of Things should be made less so that if the system fails, then also all the work can go on smoothly. The increase on Internet of Things devices results in less human interaction (W hitmore, Agarwal Da Xu, 2015). Machines and technologies having Internet of Things does not need human to regulate them. They are all automated and do their work by their own. So people are losing their job making the state unemployed. This creates a drawback to the Internet of Things devices which initiates loss of jobs. Issues of Internet of Things The challenges that are faced by Internet of Things are in three sectors. Any new technology that comes in new trend faces challenges in these three sectors (Granjal, Monteiro Silva, 2015). The areas where Internet of Things faces challenges are: technology, society and business. Technology- The technologies that are needed to make the Internet of Things faces challenges in security, compatibility, longevity, standards, intelligent action and analysis and also connectivity. Security- This involves giving security to the devices of Internet of Things that has taken most of the part in the technology sector (Al-Fuqaha et al, 2015). Hacking of devices should be minimized so that the personal data of the user does not get lost and they do not have to face data breach. The security is the most common issue that is faced by the Internet of Things devices. Longevity and compatibility- As the passing days, the devices of Internet of Things are facing more competition among the devices that are being invented. The technologies have to be compatible and have to have a long life which will help them to survive in the market. The compatibility issue comes from the cloud services, diversity among the firmware and also in M2M protocols. Standards- The standard of Internet of Things includes communication protocols, network protocols and also the standards of data aggregation (Turner et al., 2014). The standards that are included are the way to handle, store and process the data that are being collected from the servers. The scale, frequency and scope of the data are involved in the process of data aggregation. Intelligent action and analysis- This is the last stage of Internet of Things implementation. This is used to extract insights from information for analysis. The analysis is driven from the cognitive technologies and also their accompanying models. Connectivity- This is the one of the biggest issue faced by Internet of Things and all the present communication tools and underlying technologies will be defied in future for this connectivity. The present connectivity depends on a server client paradigm and is centralized to authorize, connect the nodes at different network and also authenticate those servers. Business- Business Internet of Things faces problems in legal security and regulatory. Internet of Things is divided into three categories in issues related to business. Consumer Internet of Things includes connected devices like smart phones, smart cars, connected appliance, laptops and many more (Stankovic, 2014). The commercial Internet of Things includes device trackers, medical devices that are connected and inventory control. And lastly the industrial Internet of Things that includes manufacturing robots, pipeline motors and all other connected devices. One of the most Important Issue of Internet of Things One of the most important issues that are not discussed in the above discussion is the privacy issue that comes in Internet of Things. This is a unique challenge that is faced by the Internet of Things. The privacy issue is becoming most important factor in the devices of Internet of Things. The devices of the user can be tracked. The tracking devices that are available are for car phone and smart televisions. The device can be hacked and this creates a problem for the user who using the device. This hacking of data from the devices of the customers hampers the privacy of the customer (Sicari et al., 2015). The vision feature and the voice recognition and also the conversation are continuously sends to the cloud service which creates a chance to hack and a third party may get the data or also may alter the information that is being sent. This faces challenge in the privacy law and the data protection law. Some strategies are to be developed so that the privacy is offered to the devic es that are used by the customers in this era of new services and technologies. Impact of Privacy Issues and Applications The advanced technology that is widely used in this modern world is the Internet of Things that are applied in many sectors such as transportation, smart home, environment monitoring, well being application and also the industry sector. Internet of Things helps the user to make decisions and supervise their surroundings (Riggins Wamba, 2015). The Internet of Things improves the life of the people and creates new opportunities to the people. It creates a momentum for market competition and also increases the economic growth of the country. The processing and collecting of data are focused by many researchers in Internet of Things. Novels are also processed and architectures are communicated by other researchers. Wireless sensors are also used to collect the data and also help to process those data and take help of cloud service to store the information. Internet of Things also uses paradigm of big data that helps to analyze and compute the capabilities of those devices. Reflection on Internet of Things According to me, Internet of Things is the most modern technology that has evolved in the era of digitization. All generation people, from youth to old take help of this Internet of Things in daily life. All the systems and devices that are used in daily lives are connected to internet and are automated. People are relying on devices of Internet of Things more than anything else to do their every day work. The issues of Internet of Things are to be kept in mind so that data breach does not occur. And in devices should be used to that extend so that it does not becomes our daily habit to use those system. Everyone should make sure that their life can go on without the devices and services that are provided from the Internet of Things. Conclusion From the report, a clear view is obtained about the security issues that are faced by the Internet of Things in this world of digitization. This report deals with all the challenges that are faced by Internet of Things, the security issues, relevant technologies, applications of the technologies, clarification on vague areas and research questions. This paper also summarizes the problem that is faced by Internet of Things. The impacts of such issues are also discussed and lastly reflection is given on what is discussed in the paper. When we two parted by Lord Byron and First Love by John Clare Essay Example

When we two parted by Lord Byron and First Love by John Clare Paper Explore the themes of love and Loss and how they are expressed in the poems When we two parted by Lord Byron and first Love by John Clare. Answer When we two parked by Lord Byron and First Love by John Clare both deal with love that was once dear and is lost. While When we two parked is about the unhappy end of a clandestine romance, First Love is about unrequited love. The title of When we two parked is direct and provides a glimpse of Byrons feeling of heartbreak, despair and desolation. Reiterated in the first line, it lends the poem a tone of sadness and melancholy. The words First Love summons a feeling of innocence and naà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½vetà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½, the poet has never been in love before and is doomed to get his heart broken. His title lends a tone of hope, which is ultimately crushed, making it an ironic title. Enjambment is used to mirror the chaos of the poets feelings, in When we two parked. First Love has punctuation marks after almost every line, mirroring the poets innocence. Both the poems use vivid imagery of cold. First Love uses snow and winter to mirror desolation after the first exhilaration of love; and the snow symbolises the death of the poets love. When we two parked uses chill and dew to explore the feelings of betrayal and tears. Physical effects of the loss of love is evident in First Love as the poet uses violent metaphoric verbs to symbolise his anguish blood burnt, reference to blood abound in the poem, linking his love to his very life. He is blinded by infatuation, his eyesight gone quite away as he figuratively explains how he could se none but his love. Byron also feels physical pain when he remembers his love, but this is a pain of shame, a knell to his ear. We shudder as he remembers his relationship and insinuates about her unfaithfulness. Byron is ashamed and regrets his relationship deeply. The woman is described as pale in the poem, not the man, suggesting that she was responsible for the break up. Both the poems have an element of deception in them. In When we two parted Byron openly blames his lover for ending the relationship and leaving him half broken hearted. He portrays her as a flirt and as being light while he shares the shame. They shared a clandestine relationship, one that the society would have frowned upon. In First Love, the deception is the poets own, as Clare details how he fell for a woman only for her looks. He was infatuated with her and her sweet face and blamed himself when she did not requite his love. His innocence is taken away as he describes his heart which will never recover from the blow. The last stanza of the poems shows that the love has not been forgotten. Byron imagines his meeting with his lady and how he would react, while Clare believes that he can never love again. My heart can return no more. First Love uses alliteration to detail the poets feeling of novelty, sibilants such as sudden and sweet, being in love for the first time and repetition of pale to reinforce the feeling. Pale also fore shadows an unhappy end to his love. Personification and hyperbole abound as he is carried away by his infatuation, but again, clay and aid suggest that all is not well. By the last stanza, innocence has turned to weary experience as he asks the rhetorical question Are flowers the winters choice? He is dejected but the last stanza shows a hint of acceptance but not forgiveness, as he blames her very soul for deceiving him. When we two parted and First Love both speak about the loss of love. Sometimes it is one sided (and has turned to hate), blaming the woman who ended Byrons relationship thy vows are all broken and sometimes unrequited, but not forgotten, as with John Clare. But to both the poets, love is a beautiful feeling to be enjoyed, only regretted when it is over.

hamlet research paper

hamlet research paper hamlet research paper Dwight Tucker March 11, 2013 English VI Ms. Morrell Hamlet Research Paper In William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, prince of Denmark has been interpreted in numerous ways. Throughout the play Hamlet takes on different roles, making it hard to define him as only one character type. Hamlet gave off the image he was insane at times when his mind was really at ease. Though it seems Hamlet is insane, there is evidence showing he is not a mad man. Hamlet says he is not mad almost throughout the whole book, shearing his feelings and emotions with just about anyone that means something to him. On the other hand even the ones that are close to him think otherwise. As a reader I could understand why they thought such ways about him. Hamlet is very angry at the fact that his mother married his father’s brother, right after his own death. Those actions triggered anger within hamlet that was only toward the ones that was after him. Mostly at King Claudius, but there is reason behind it all as Hamlet said â€Å"I am but mad north-north-west, when the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a hand saw.†(II.ii.378-379). Hamlet means that when a certain situation happens, or when certain people are around, he can be mad. For example when he was talking to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern right before the play starts, they were thinking of what Hamlet meant so they can transfer the message to Claudius, but the message was too confusing for them to send. As said before there is method behind Hamlet so called madness, it’s all a part of a plan that him and King Hamlet strategized on top of the roof. Hamlet could easily obtain himself he states â€Å"It is not madness that I have uttered. Bring me to the test. I the matter will reword which madness would gamble from† (iii.iv.143-146) Hamlet is explaining that madness is not what he’s suffering from. If it were to come down to something that tested him, he would prove that he isn’t mad. Also to only have revenge on the murderer of his father on hi s mother new husband. He also tells her to stop seeing his uncle by saying â€Å"that aptly is put on refrain tonight† (iii.i.200). That’s the only way that Gertrude is going to see what she is doing wrong, and that is by stepping away from the situation. Hamlet is also pretending to act as if he is insane to fool King Claudius. So Hamlet begins to seek for information about his father death. Hamlet has met with his best friend Horatio and he tells Hamlet that he has seen his father as a ghost and he has requested that he want to talk with him. After the meeting between Hamlet and his father, he feels that its only right to put on an act. Hamlet says â€Å"As I perchance here after shall think meet to an antic disposition on† (i.v.172-173) after the conversation that his dead father had changes his attitude, which made him, put on an act to bother some of the people that were involved in his father death. As said by an outside sources â€Å"Hamlet pretends to be mad in order to deflect his uncles suspicion; his ruse is a complete failure, as indeed it logically open to a secret murder† (Greenblatt, 219) not only do Hamlet notice that it’s a secret murder the readers do to. Hamlet dislikes Claudius because of all the things that transpired with him and his mother. Because of this, Hamlet is very emotional and his hate toward Claudius just gets miscounted as â€Å"madness†. The hate toward him gets stronger, â€Å"O villain, villain, smiling, damned villain! My tables- meet it is I set it down that one may smile and smile and be a villain. At least I am sure it may be so in Denmark† (i.v.166-167) this is hamlet moving into the phase of anger at his father’s killer. The repetition also shows that he is really serious about this. Everything that’s done by hamlet is meaning behind it, there is logic, an explanation for majority of his actions. Not speaking for everything that hamlet has done he has thought about, but for the things he planned to do and mapped out. I find hamlets

Analysis of the trends in the consumption patterns of oil Essay

Analysis of the trends in the consumption patterns of oil - Essay Example The definition of Economics can be classified into three broad categories, namely: (a) Wealth Economics Definition, (b) Material Welfare Economics Definition, and, (c) Scarcity Economics Definition. Of these three, the Scarcity Economics Definition is the pertinent for the present. According to this, economics is a â€Å"science which studies human behavior as a relationship between ends and means which have alternative uses† (Robbins, 1935). The study of Economics is divided by the modern economists into two parts, namely; microeconomics and macroeconomics. In macroeconomics, the economy as a whole is analyzed, while microeconomics analyses the economy in terms of its innumerable decision-making units. Microeconomics: The study of supply and demand inside a market is known as microeconomics. Microeconomics is â€Å"the study of particular firms, particular households, individual prices, wage incomes, individual industries, and particular commodities† (Boulding, 1969). Microeconomics offers solution for the problems: what should be produced, how those goods and services should be produced, and, who is allowed to consume those goods and services. It explains the composition of total production- why more of some things is produced than of others. In other words, it analyzes demand and supply for a product or service. The law of demand states that â€Å"a rise in the price of a commodity or service is followed by a reduction in demand, and a fall in price is followed by an increase in demand, if conditions of demand remain constant† (Samuelson, 1962). ... The major factors that influence the demand for a product or service are: price and availability of a substitute good, price and availability of a complimentary good, income, tastes and preferences, price expectations, stock of goods in consumer hands, and, population. Law of supply: Supply is the amount offered for sale at a given price. The law of supply states that "other things remaining the same, as the price of a commodity rises its supply is extended, and as the price falls its supply is contracted" (Boulding, 1969). The supply changes due to: i) costs of production, ii) unavailability of resources (like raw materials for the production), iii) improvement in the means of transportation, communication and technology, iv) political disturbances or war, and, v) the climate, irrigation methods and soil (in the case of agriculture products). Trends in the consumption patterns of oil The availability of oil and its price are linked by the laws of supply and demand. Each day approximately 84 million barrels of oil are extracted from the earth, and approximately the same amount is consumed. The world's rate of oil extraction will begin soon or has already begun to decline, while the demand for oil continues to grow which in turn will produce sharply rising prices for oil. In this study, the Oil Market Report by IEA dated 10th July, 2008 (IEA, 2008) is analyzed. The highlights of the analysis are given below: Microeconomics of oil - Supply and Demand: The oil market is one where small changes to the supply or demand cause large changes to the clearing price. In economics jargon, both oil supply and demand are "inelastic" - they show only a minimal short-term response to changes in

Now you see me(2013) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Now you see me(2013) - Essay Example There is no link in the cast of this film. Laurent and Ruffalo are engaging protagonists. The film’s bumbling steely optimism vs. pessimism makes it enjoyable to watch. It is also interesting to watch Caine portray Freeman as Thaddeus, and Arthur Tressler as the rich sponsor of the Four Horsemen. These two subvert the audience’s expectations, by acting as older gentlemen. By comparison, the Four Horsemen, despite likable performances, are not equally satisfying as characters who are fully-realized on the surface and as metaphorical embodiments of emotional qualities. The Louis Leterrier’s cinematic technique blends well with Boaz Yakin Magician Caper storyline. The result is a captivating subtext about the importance of art in entertainment, an enduing magic of films, and the critical role of creative integrity in the cynical skepticism world. The final film features a charismatic band of actress and actors who create a bit of fun and exciting viewing experience through better communication that underlies the message. The film Now You See Me lacks the majestic pop-art statement. The movie’s central set pieces and action sequences are not executed with enough finesse. Furthermore, an attempt to spin the deeper mythology may seem too much like a sequel fodder or rather an afterthought. Nonetheless, this demonstrates that Hollywood films can still entrance. Commenting on the film Ricourt and Yakin said the Now You See me film is similar to a screenplay by (Yakin 4). The film is characterized by twists and turns that probably do not pe rfectly hold up under close-scrutiny. The narrative tends to boil down to a cat and mouse game. However, it is interesting to participate in the guessing contest. Similarly, â€Å"the final reveal† caps off themes and ideas, which are developed throughout the story, is satisfying and easily brings greater significant to the story line proceedings. A look at review’s of renowned critics can give an insight

Family Structure Policy HOW CHANGES IN THE FAMILY STRUCTURE HAVE AFFECTED POLICY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM INTRODUCTION An introduction to social policy Social policy refers to the study of social welfare and how it relates to politics and the society. The United Kingdom is a unitary state where the central government controls all the activities of government. Demographic changes in the society have strong implications on government policy as far as sound decision-making is concerned. These changes come in form of divorce rates, decline in marriage as the fundamental institution of society, rise in cohabitation and many others. Irwin, S. (1999) In each administrative region we have a secretary of state and administrative departments situated in the central government with respective assemblies and executive. Laws in these administrative regions differ from one region to another. For example laws which apply in England and Wales tend to differ from those in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Social services in the UK are under the health board but changes do occur frequently. The main government departments dealing with social policy in the UK are as follows. Central government The central government is in charge of National organisations and Local government Parliament is responsible for Primary legislation, Local authorities and London boroughs Cabinet Office undertakes reforms in the Public service The Treasury in charge of economy policy of the government and financing Department of Health provides healthcare, social services and community care. Department for Work and Pensions Is responsible for national insurance, social assistance and creation of employment. Department for Communities and Local Government is in charge of Local government; Urban policy; Housing and environmental health Ministry of Justice Law and order Department for Children, Schools and Families -manage Schools; Education welfare; Learning disability (5-18); childrens services The administration of welfare in the UK The administration system in the UK has undergone major reforms with the first phase covering the 1960s and 1970s where by planning and control of public expenditure was shifted to treasury. The second phase between 1980s and 1990s saw the restructuring of the civil service and the administration of welfare. The British social policy was dominated by poor laws way back from 1598 to 1948 for instance the Elizabethan poor law of 1601 provided for a compulsory poor rate, creation of overseers of relief and â€Å"setting the poor on work†. FAMILY STRUCTURE According to research there has been notable decrease in the percentage of people living in households comprising the traditional family unit. Around 2001 Chinese and Asian communities had families with greater proportion of married couples; while on the other hand other ethnic groups like the black, white Caribbean had the greater proportion of cohabiting couples. In the year 2004 according to statistics eight out of 10 people in the UK lived in a family household but however the same statistics indicate the there is a decline in this form of structure because for past 40 years there has been an increase in the number of people living alone. This trend has been accelerated by high divorce and cohabitation rates. Increase in the number of breakouts and the number of births occurring outside marriage has had a hand in this trend. Since 1972 the proportion of children living in larger families has declined Different ethnic groups differ in terms of size of household for instance Asian households tend to be bigger that other ethnic groups and can comprise of even three generations. About 12% of births in the UK in the year 1980 were outside marriage. By the year 2000 the figures had increased to about 41% making UK the leading country with such births in the EU. Most of these births are as a result of cohabitation. About household chores, women spend about four hours in activities such as washing, cooking, and ironing. This is about one and a half hours more than that of men. CHANGES IN THE FAMILY STRUCTURE Changes if family structure comes about in terms of composition and size of households. For instance there is change from 2 parent families to single parenthood. Maternal employment is also evident in the UK whereby mothers go out to look for paid employment. Other changes are in form of: Changes in employment and household resourcing In the UK for the past decades there have been trends in polarisation especially for women at individual level and at the level of household. There has been a notable alteration of gender in relation to education, employment and household resourcing. Growth in participation of post-compulsory education has also been witnessed for the past few decades party associated with employment opportunity structure family relations of partial dependence and obligations. Some of the factors contributing towards income inequalities include: The rising gap between the highly paid and the lowly paid with increasing premiums for skills and qualifications. The numbers of workless households increase faster than the overall official unemployment rates. Marriage cohabitation and divorce A steady decline in marriage has been noted since early 1970s in the UK.Postponement of marriage has been observed in some household and it is mainly contributed to by cohabitation. Continued growth has had an impact on peoples perception concerning morality and living arrangements. Within cohabiting unions child bearing has become very common. The UK has the highest divorce rates in the entire European union .Marital ties are increasingly being based on emotions and romantic love rather than material necessity. Living apart together -this is a term used to refer to people having a partner in what is understood to be a sexual relationship. It is similar to co-residential cohabitation or living together because the two parties regard themselves as a couple (Murphy and Wang 1999). Lone parenthood Sociologists have continued to regard lone parenthood as an indicator of family change. By 1991 around 20% of all families with dependent children were headed by a lone parent. This growth was due to increase in divorce rates, single parents and never married parent. ( McKay and Marsh 1994). Fertility In the UK there was marked rise in fertility during the post war period then a decline in fertility. Two major components of the rise in fertility are the change in family size and the period for parenthood. Most women born in Britain in the late 1940s have remained childess. This trend has been cited by sociologists as important. (ONS 1997; and Irwin 1999). EFFECTS OF CHANGES IN THE FAMILY STRUCTURE ON SOCIAL POLICY Key in the implications of these changes in the family is the explosion of the non-marital child bearing. Changing of family structures has led to legislations by the government for instance the family law in Scotland. Poverty and disadvantage have serious implications on the social policy that seeks to create a level playing field in the nation and especially for the children Boheim, R. and Ermisch, J. (1998). Child poverty is firmly on the agenda of many European countries. It entails strategies which aim at increasing the income for low income earners with children. This is by promoting policies which will increase employment for poor families. Hall, R., Ogden, P.E. and Hill, C. (1999) A successful strategy should seek a balanced approach whereby improved benefits and improved incentives. For many years the rights of a child have been on top of the agenda for EU recently measures have been put in place to establish a comprehensive strategy to promote and effectively implement the rights in both internal and external policies. Women with high qualifications are likely to enter into partnership at later years than those at low levels of education or the non- educated. Also those women who are less educated are likely to have high divorce rates than those with high education. Working mothers have an impact on the Childs well- being. It brings additional income and lifts many families out of poverty. Those who grow up poor early are likely to leave home early and are likely to be less educated. Despite widespread economic growth and progress in poverty reduction, in the UK the child remains the most vulnerable population. This because they are at high risk of living in poverty with the changing structure and composition of the family. Children are missing out on the on political and economic agenda. Participatory approaches should therefore be initiated involvement of all stakeholders including particularly the children and young people. The perspectives of children from single parenthood should be included in policy formulation and implementation so as to combat poverty. CONCLUSION In the UK today households are made in many different ways and people have a variety of patterns of working. The current patterns and trends in familial lifestyles are key determinants of the level of developments in employment and patterns of inequality. Changes in composition of households are key demographic indicators of changing living standards and lifestyles. These changes remain top on the agenda for the government so as to institute measures aimed at reducing poverty levels for instance the government has put children at its centre of its social policy agenda. This is evident by increasing the levels of in-work support for low -income parents and initiating programmes to support parents from disadvantaged areas.
